Metal (Manual & CNC) Machining
Carnegie Mellon University Course Final Project
Spring 2023 24-200: Intro to Manual Machining & 24-300: Intro to CNC Machining
As the final project for the Intro to Manual Machining course, I machined a phone stand using a manual mill and manual lathe. In order to fully understand the many applications of metal machining, I threaded one of the stands to connect it to the base block and used a pin for the other. I also sand-blasted the final project for a uniform matte finish.
As the final project for the Intro to CNC Machining course, I CNC'd a contour into a block of aluminum of my initials in Comic Sans on a HAAS CM-1 CNC Mill. To ensure this part came out detailed and clean, I included multiple passes using a smaller endmill than what was initially used to cut out the contour.

While this was the final project for the course, we were taught from the ground-up how to operate a CNC mill, used MasterCam to create and load GCode to the machines, and how to properly clean machined parts as well as make cut-outs and use a variety of endmills.
