Carbon Fiber Storage Shelf
Carnegie Mellon Racing Club Project
Fall 2022
In the fall semester of 2022, I was a member of the Carnegie Mellon Racing Aerodynamics and Composites team. At the time, I was interested in the shop space and as such I was tasked with designing and constructing a shelf to store our old carbon fiber as the box it was currently being stored in was ruining the weave and making scraps unusable.

I first designed the shelf in Solid Works using the accurate measurements of 2' x 4' and 2' x 2' wood boards to construct the skeleton of the shelf. I then measured the sides and shelving dimensions to find out what size plywood would need to be cut to fit over all parts equally. I then made another file where I found the correct orientation to position the cutouts of the plywood pieces on the same large plywood piece and marked the pieces on the large piece for cutting out. I then cut out the plywood pieces, cut the 2' x 4' and
2' x 2' to the correct length and constructed the shelf as designed. I then used some paint we had to give it a nice gray color.
